Robert J Coleman COLEMAN, ROBERT J, 95, passed away August 8th, 2019. Born Dec 5, 1923 in Nashua, NH, the son of Robert and Mary Coleman. He was a longtime member of St. Mary Magdalen Church, married to Carmen A. Coleman with whom he traveled the world and raised a family. Bob was an avid tennis player and Boston sports fan proud of his Irish family roots. A Navy aviation veteran who served in the Pacific during WWII, he went on to build a successful truck dealership in Orlando. Mr. Coleman was preceded in death by his wife, brothers Walter and Roy Coleman, sister Gladys Hanrahan and his grandson Daniel Coleman. Survivors include his sister Mildred Bailey; sons James, Robert and Paul Coleman; daughter Joyce Scott; four grandchildren Shannon Menges, Sean Coleman, Andrew Scott and Katherine Fleischmann; four great grandchildren, Mara Menges and Karoline, Evelyn and Walter Fleischmann. Visitation will be at St. Mary Magdalen Church at 10:00, Saturday, August 24th, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00. DeGusipe Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Maralynn Smith Conway, SCMaralynn Smith, 86, of Conway, SC and previously of Maitland, Florida, passed away Tuesday evening, July 30, 2019 with her family by her side at the home of her daughter, Alissa Rorer.Mrs. Smith was born in North Judson, Indiana, a daughter of the late Melvin and Charlotte Donovan Lippelt. As a Navy spouse, she lived in many places across the country, including Norfolk, VA; Key West, FL; Monterey, CA; and Memphis, TN. She was active in the Orlando community since 1977 when she and her husband of 52 years, the late CDR Robert L. Smith, USN (RET) were stationed to NTC Orlando. She was a member of Navy Sojourners and the Winter Park Garden Club. Among her hobbies were gardening, cooking, and knitting hats and scarves for cancer patients.Surviving are a son, Robert (Lisa) Smith; daughter, Alissa (Kevin) Rorer; brother, Ronald Lippelt; sister, Florence Parsons, 5 grandchildren, Donovan, Alexis, Shane, Britney, and Erika; 4 great-grandchildren, Shanti, Faith, Ari, and Peyton.Mrs. Smith will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery next to her late husband, who passed in 2014. Elwin Gane, Jr. Elwin (Al) L. Gane, Jr., MSgt. USAF, Retired. Born in Grand Rapids, MI 10-02-1932, passed away at Smyrna West Assisted Living Facility, New Smyrna Beach, FL 07-19-2019.Precede in death by his father Elwin L. Gane, Sr., mother Geraldine, sister Kathleen (Roy) Austin, 3 sons Paul Elwin, infants Arthur William, Richard Lester, infant daughter Kathleen Margaret. Survived by his wife Carolyn, son Carl, grandchildren Hilary, Ashton and their children. He enlisted in the Air Force June 1950 and was a Procurement Specialist and tours of duty at SAC bases: Shaftsbury Eng, Lockbourne OH, Beale CA, Pease NH where he received his BS Degree in Bus. Mgmt. from NH University, Hickam HI, Altus OK, Taegu Korea, receiving many Excellence Commendation Awards, retiring from Fairchild WA and moving to Orlando FL 01-01-1975. Worked as Buyer at Stromberg Carlson then Qwip Systems (div. of Exxon). 1981 he and his wife purchased and operated AgriMart Feed Store in Longwood for 10 years. He had a passion and love of wines and became self employed as a representative/consultant and sales on commission for House of Burgundy, Stacole, C&B Distributors and Western Wine Merchants retiring Sep. 2016. He (DA WIZ) and his wife hosted the OZ (Order of Zin) party for 18 years at their home on Lake May Jane, Orlando. Carol Joyce Olson Carol Joyce Olson, 80, of Windermere, FL quietly passed away at home on July 26, 2019 after battling cancer for nine months. She was born on August 13, 1938 in Ellenville, New York in the Catskill Mountains, as the second daughter of Gurnsey and Margaret Slater who lived in the neighboring town of Kerhonksen.Carol graduated from Kerhonksen, NY High School in 1956 and from the School of Nursing at the Albany Medical Center in New York in 1959. She was married to Horace Gorton for six years. After five years as a single mother of two children, she married Merlin Olson in 1975 and they celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary on April 25, 2019. After completing her nursing education, she lived in New York City, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Denver, Houston, New York City a second time, and in two suburbs of Orlando.Carol had successful professional careers in three different fields. During the 1960’s, she served as a flight attendant for Northwest Airlines and TWA in an era when international carriers included at least one nurse among their flight crews. She spent most of her professional life as a nurse specialized in obstetrics, gynecology and pediatrics at three teaching hospitals: The New York Hospital in NYC, the University Of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis; and the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. In this last medical center (KUMC) she served as an Assistant Director of Nursing Services. After her significant nursing and administrative experience, she assumed chief marketing officer positions at hospitals in Denver and in Houston. Carol chose early retirement at age 55 and she and Merlin enjoyed more than 20 years of nationwide and international travel with frequent trips to each of the fifty states and to countries in Europe, Africa, South American, Mexico, the South Pacific, and the Caribbean.Carol was a true lady with an impeccable sense of class, good taste, and manners. She was the epitome of her frequently referenced book, Emily Post’s Rules of Etiquette. She demonstrated a personal lifestyle appreciated and emulated by other women of all ages. In 1999, she received a Points of Light Award signed by President Clinton in recognition of her commitment to secure for all Americans, especially young people, the fundamental resources needed to lead a productive life. She was always kind and supportive of people and set a fine example of genuine caring and generosity toward others. She often said, “I feel my best when I am doing something good for someone else….for family, friends or strangers.”Survivors include her first husband, Horace Gorton, and her current husband, Merlin Olson; her son, Bradford Gorton and her daughter Catherine (Gorton) Romano; and her five step-sons, Mark Olson, Michael Olson, Matthew Olson, Martin Olson, and Mitchell Olson; and her beloved granddaughter Alexandra Romano and nine step-grandchildren, Losha Olson, Galina Olson, Matthew Olson, Jennie Olson, Nathan Olson, Nichole Olson, Quinten Olson, Shannon Olson, and Dylan Olson.A private celebration of life service will be held. Thomas Victor Bordonaro Thomas Victor Bordonaro, 84, died Thursday, July 25, 2019 in Orlando, Florida. Tom was born on August 6, 1934 to Joseph and Marie (nee Tomasello) of New Castle, Pennsylvania. Tom honorably served in the United States Marine Corp from 1952-1955, attended Kent State University, graduating in 1959 with a degree in Political Science and minor in Spanish, and became an active member of Phi Sigma Kappa, including service as Chapter President. After college, Tom moved to Dayton, Ohio to accept a position with the Federal Government, his employer until retirement in 1992. Tom married Sandra Marie Miller in 1963 and had two children, Joe (b 1965) and Christina (b 1969). They resided in Dayton until 1979, when they moved to Orlando. Post retirement, Tom enjoyed golfing at his home course, The Fairways, as well as an active member of the Winter Park Elks Lodge, Casselberry Veterans, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the VFW. Tom is survived by his children and a granddaughter, Amanda (b 1997). He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings: Joe, Sam, and Tina.A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday, August 31st at the Winter Park Elks Lodge – 4755 Howell Branch, Winter Park, Florida 32792 at 3:00 p.m.

Richard L. Catherwood Richard L. Catherwood, Winter Springs, FL, age 72, passed away suddenly on April 29, 2019. He was born in Johnstown, PA to Richard L. Catherwood, Sr. and Ruth Marsh Catherwood, moved to the Orlando area in 1982 where he worked in retail management for 27 years before retiring in 2010. He leaves his loving wife of 41 years, Betty, and beloved pets.

Betty Lou Bruns December 26, 1933 – July 28, 2019Betty Lou was born in Miami to Roy and Pearl Partin. In 1945 she moved to Sanford, Florida. While at Seminole High School she was a cheerleader and in 1951, the year she graduated from high school, Betty Lou was named “Miss Sanford”. She attended College at Stetson University where, as a Freshman, she was named “Miss Stetson”. Betty Lou married Bill Whitaker in 1952 and had three sons: Hurley Partin, William Bray (Billy), and David Cole. Before Bill’s passing in March, he recalled her influence in his early legal career as “instrumental” to his success. After her divorce with Bill, she raised her boys. Her second husband, Murray Brooks, was a positive father figure to Billy and Cole while Hurley was in college. Her final marriage was to August Bruns (Auggie). Betty Lou and Augie loved to travel together on cruises. She had a full life and lived in Orlando, Longwood, Atlanta and Melbourne. Betty Lou was predeceased by two sisters and her brother; Audry Gurnee, Doris Schautteet and Archie Roy Partin, Jr. (“Choo”). She is survived by her sister Margaret Inghram, her three sons, four grandchildren; Cole Whitaker, Jr., Tiffany Tarr, Partin Whitaker, Kelly Anne Whitaker, and two great grandsons; Fritz Heinricher and Cameron Tarr.

Gary Lee Mikels Gary Lee Mikels, 54, of Sanford, FL passed away at home on August 5, 2019, after a courageous battle with liver cancer. He was born in Orlando, FL to Beuford & Jean Mikels. Gary is survived by his loving mother, Jean Mikels, of Sanford FL, and siblings, Daniel Lee Mikels (Sandy), of Folkston, GA and Terri Rene Mikels, of Sanford, FL. Jane R. Taylor Jane Rectenwald Taylor, 97, died August 1, 2019, at William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of Florence Albright and Edward Rectenwald. She attended Wilson College and Carnegie Mellon University and worked as a physicians’ secretary in Michigan before retiring to Melbourne. She was a 75-year member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity and a member of Melbourne Alumnae Panhellenic and AAUW of Melbourne. She was an avid spectator of the performing arts and volunteer for Brevard Symphony Orchestra and Melbourne Civic Theater. She loved travelling, playing bridge, cooking, and hosting delightful dinner parties. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Breen (Farmington Hills, MI), her son Alexander F. Taylor (Redlands, CA), two grandsons and two great-grandsons. She was predeceased by her son Clifford F. Taylor (Ann Arbor, MI).
