BIRMINGHAM, AL — A man who has been in prison for nearly 40 years for a murder in Birmingham has been linked to a murder in Boston from 1980. A report from the CBS affiliate in Boston said 60-year-old Steven Fike who was convicted in 1982 of killing a dancer from Sammy's Go-Go in Birmingham, has been charged in a murder from two years prior.

Fike was indicted in Suffolk County this week on murder and rape charges in connection with the death of Wendy Dansereau in March of 1980, the CBS report said.

“Ms. Dansereau was 19 years old when she was murdered, and her family has waited nearly four decades to know what happened to her," District Attorney Rachael Rollins said in a statement to WBZ in Boston. “Today, we have not only the advances in forensic testing necessary to identify her killer, but a team of dedicated professionals – including Boston Police Detective Jack Cronin and SCDAO Civilian Investigator Emily Wood – who have worked to find answers for Ms. Dansereau’s loved ones, especially her daughter, who was only four weeks old at the time of her mother’s death and has waited her entire life for accountability.”
