TOYAMA -- An 11-month-old baby has died after being bitten by two large dogs at his home in this central Japan city.

The baby, Jin Nakamura, was bitten by two Great Danes, each measuring roughly 120 centimeters in length and weighing about 80 kilograms, at his home in the central Japan city of Toyama at around 5:35 p.m. on March 20.

The infant was rushed to a hospital but died about two hours later of hemorrhagic shock caused by a broken skull. His grandfather, who is in his 50s, suffered leg injuries while trying to stop the dogs.

According to Toyama Prefectural Police's Toyama Minami Police Station, the family had kept the dogs in their yard, which was equipped with fencing about 180 centimeters tall. When the grandfather and baby stepped out into the yard, the dogs are said to have attacked them.
