15-year-old charged in fatal West Nashville shooting, warrant issued for suspect's mother

A 15-year-old boy wanted in connection to a fatal shooting in West Nashville surrendered to police over the weekend and was arrested, the Metro Nashville Police Department reported.

The boy is charged at Davidson County Juvenile Court with criminal homicide for the death of Dominique Pirtle, who was 17.

The Tennessean is not naming the boy because he is a juvenile.

The shooting took place Friday on Elizabeth Jordan Street at Indiana Avenue.

Police reported they have surveillance video of the boy shooting Pirtle several times after the two arrived at the intersection, and Pirtle went to help friends change a flat tire.

Pirtle died at a local hospital.

The shooter then reportedly ran to an Indiana Avenue home where he changed his clothes, detectives said. Police say they found the pistol believed to have been used in the shooting inside a bedroom at the residence.

Police issued an arrest warrant the boy's mother, Sharon Newsome, who is being charged with being an accessory after the fact. Detectives believe she drove her son from the area.

Police said Newsome turned herself in Monday on the outstanding warrant. She was released on $1,500 bond
