The fight between Rougned Odor and Jose Bautista happened four years ago today, May 15, 2016, as the Twitter account @TDISportsClips pointed out.
Odor, then a 22-year-old rising star, punched the veteran Bautista in the face with a right hook.
Mitch Moreland and Kevin Pillar — now teammates with the Red Sox — also went at it during the brawl. At the time, Pillar played for the Blue Jays and Moreland played for the Rangers.
Moreland put Pillar in a headlock.
Moreland told WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford on Friday he remembers Pillar running toward him.
“I was like, ‘This dude looks crazy like he’s trying to go get somebody. I have to slow him down',” Moreland told Bradford. "Then I looked up and I was like, ‘Oh man, that’s Pillar.’ You talk to guys over at first and I liked this guy. We just hugged it out a little bit. Then when I let go of him he looked up, looked at me and we shook it off and went back into the pile. We talked about in spring training. He said he has a good picture of it at home.”
Pillar signed a one-year, $4.25 million contract with the Red Sox on Feb. 14. Moreland, who is on a one-year, $3-million deal, is in his fourth season with Boston.
