Parents! Before you wake up your children make sure to check the latest school closings. This morning Henrico County Public Schools announced that classes will be in session. No word yet if Richmond Public Schools will be closed.
Friday morning conditions were worse in the southern part of the state. 8News Digital Reporter Ben Dennis went to Waverly where the main roads were okay, but some of the side streets were very slushy.
Conditions in Emporia Friday morning were also icy. Crews were working to clear the main roads, but side streets are in worse shape. There are a few inches of snow on the ground, enough that 8News Reporter Julius Kizzee made a new snow friend.

Weather Alert: Snowfall in Emporia
The winter storm brought icy conditions to Virginia roadways. VDOT pre-treated the roads with road salt brine solution and remain on standby with their equipment for potential hazards.
VDOT’s traffic operations center is also closely monitoring live road conditions – keeping an eye out for any accidents or debris on the highway.

8News Morning Anchor John Rogers didn’t see much snow in Florida but judging by his tweet, he’s thrilled by the sight.
Inclement weather has caused several school closings throughout Central Virginia Friday. Some of the counties closed tomorrow include Dinwiddie, Prince George, Charles City, Mecklenburg and Amelia County public schools.
Closer to the Richmond area, Hopewell, New Kent County, and Petersburg SchoolS announced closures for Friday as well.

While snowfall fell throughout some parts of the Metro Richmond and Tri-Cities area, power outages reported were minimal. According to Dominion Energy, Southside Virginia was most affected, with approximately 600 in the dark at of 9:30 p.m. Most outages in the Central Virginia area have been restored.
