An angry Wigan family has hit out after yobs damaged a grandmother’s mobility scooter and wrecked a family holiday in the process.

Susan Daniels, from Scholes, was appalled to find the handlebars of the carriage she uses to get about had been twisted right round.

That has left her looking at a bill for more than £200 and means plans to book a break at the Pontins holiday camp in Southport are in tatters.

Ms Daniels left the scooter outside her Vauxhall Road home last Tuesday night and believes it was tampered with between 10pm and midnight.

She and daughter Louise Murphy are now asking if any properties or premises in the area have CCTV and if any footage which could be useful was recorded around the time of the incident.

Ms Daniels, 61, said: “I left my mobility scooter outside and there was a knock at my door about midnight.

“I decided to check the scooter and it wouldn’t go. I took it to the shop and they said the handlebars had been twisted all the way around. My granddaughter was here at the time and she said she could hear a banging sound.

“It’s going to cost me more than £200 to get it mended but I was supposed to be taking the grandkids away to Pontins and I can’t go now. I think it’s disgraceful. One of my grandchildren is in tears because she was so looking forward to the holiday.”

Ms Murphy has previously spoken out about anti-social behaviour in Scholes and is very unhappy that problems are continuing with seemingly little action being taken and that her mum, who struggles to walk, has been targeted.

She said: “Someone must have entered my mum’s garden. We’re just hoping we can get some CCTV to show what was going on. I’ve posted on social media about problems with needles and other things before. Nothing is being done about it.”
