Sioux Falls man arrested in connection to Utah homicide, according to sheriff's department

A Sioux Falls man has been arrested in connection to a murder in Utah, according to a Utah sheriff’s department press release. A Rapid City man was also arrested.

David Manuel Mestas, 26, from Sioux Falls, was arrested Sunday by Juab County Sheriff deputies in connection to the murder of a woman in Mona, Utah, 80 miles south of Salt Lake City, according to a press release from the Juab County Sheriff’s Office. Richard Anthony Sanchez, 26, from Rapid City, was also arrested.

Juab County Sheriff’s deputies and the Nephi Police Department responded to a call at about 12:55 p.m. Sunday at the Park and Pump gas station in Mona, where they found a woman who had been shot inside a car, according to the Juab County Sheriff’s Office. The death is being investigated as a homicide.

It's unclear what time Mestas and Sanchez were arrested on Sunday.

Both men were booked into the Juab County Jail on charges relating to the death of the victim, according to the sheriff’s office.

The victim has not been identified and there is no official cause of death yet, according to the sheriff’s office. The investigation remains ongoing and no further information will be released.
