PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A community center that served people in need in Southeast Portland for nearly 40 years has closed.

The Sunnyside Community House provided a Wednesday night dinner for people in the United Methodist Church on Southeast Yamhill.

It also provided clothing, blankets, coats and shower and laundry services to people who needed them.

In June, the organization was told to vacate the church basement it had been using.

“We’ve been here for 38 years serving meals to our houseless and marginalized folks in our community,” Hard Times Supper director Pat Schwiebert said. “So it’s a big loss to them and to us.”
