Two power outages in northwest Denver this week were caused, in part, by the extreme heat.

Xcel Energy customers in the area of Federal Boulevard and West Colfax Avenue experienced power outages on Wednesday and Thursday evenings because of the heat’s effect on equipment, Xcel spokeswoman Michelle Aguayo said. And customers in northwest Denver, Wheat Ridge and Mountain View lost power on Thursday night.

Wednesday night’s outage near Federal and Colfax impacted about 6,000 customers and 1,800 customers in the area lost power again on Thursday night, she said. More than 5,000 customers were affected Thursday in the northwest Denver.

“We know it’s difficult when the electric power customers depend on goes out,” Aguayo wrote in an email. “Our crews work as quickly and safely as possible to restore outages.”

She thanked customers for their patience during the outages and asked they continue to report outages when they happen.
