A New 'Stranger Things' Theory Says Vecna Has Been Around the Whole Damn Time (!)

This story contains spoilers for Season Four, Volume Two of Stranger Things.

A few days removed from the seismic drop that was the Stranger Things Season Four, Volume Two finale, we're well into the postgame. We've already caught up with our beloved fallen hero. Rampantly speculated when Season Five will drop. Now? It's theory time.

Earlier today, we bought a few shares in a theory that suggests Vecna is Eleven's real father, which would obviously change the course of Season Five as we know it. Now? We'd like to keep with the Upside Down's resident maniacal terror, played by the great Jamie Campbell Bower. As the Volume Two finale told us, Henry/One/Vecna kinda-sorta created the Upside Down, meaning that he's been the sole force terrorizing Hawkins—and poor Will Byers!—since Season One. Which was a damn good twist, of course. But did you really think the Stranger Things hive wouldn't scour every damn minute of the entire series for Vecna's horrifying presence? Well, they absolutely did. And it's worth the watch. Check out this clip from Season One, where baby Will falls off his bike, and hears a rather familiar noise.

There it is—the sound of a clock chiming, which we all know is Vecna's you're-about-to-die call. Now, you'd think that maybe the first clip is a coincidence. The sound of a clock chiming is pretty spooky! It's normal fodder for a horror show. Well, may I please direct you to this clip from Season Three, when the Upside Down reels Billy into its depths.

This noise sounds even more like the chiming we heard ad nauseam in Season Four. So there you go. If the Duffer Brothers truly did pepper Vecna clues throughout the series to tease his ultimate reveal, you have to give the guys credit. Let's just hope they deliver Season Five sooner, rather than later.
