No. 5 Oregon State holds Hawaii to 23 percent shooting in a 64-32 beatdown: Live updates recap

No. 5 Oregon State smothered Hawaii’s offense for four quarters and freshman Kennedy Brown scored 16 points Friday night in the Beavers’ 64-32 win over the Rainbow Wahine in Gill Coliseum.

Oregon State is 8-0, matching its best start to a season since 2015-16, the year the Beavers went to the Final Four.

Hawaii (4-5) never got it going, as OSU held the Rainbow Wahine to 23 percent (13 of 56) shooting. Lauren Rewers led Hawaii with 10 points, but shot only 4 of 19 from the floor. Hawaii’s 32 points was its season low by 20 points.

Brown hit 4 of 6 from three-point range to lead OSU in scoring. Also in double figures were Taylor Jones with 12, Mikayla Pivec with 11 and Destiny Slocum with 10.

Oregon State led 15-9 after the first quarter and 31-15 at halftime. The Beavers held Hawaii scoreless for the final 7:05 of the third quarter. OSU led by as many as 32 points during the second half.
