JeffCo Students To Receive School Meals While Learning Online

Students in the Jefferson County school system will receive breakfast and lunch while they begin the school year at home.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — Students in the Jefferson County school system begin their school year at home this week, but while they will not receive in-person instruction for the first nine weeks, they will receive school meals.

The USDA announced an extension in the summer food service program for students, which will allow students to pick up or have delivered to them breakfast and lunch.

The meal distribution will operate as follows:

  • The system will use buses to distribute meals to drop off locations for those without transportation.
  • Meals will also be available at designated car line pick up locations.
  • Anyone 18 years old or younger will be able to receive a meal for free while the schools are on remote learning.
  • At each site/distribution point, students will receive lunch (hot) and breakfast (cold)
