Opinion/Letter: Global warming is the top issue

To the Editor:

The most critical issue in this election is global warming. If we don’t change direction fast, nothing else will matter.

Look around: we have entered a catastrophic era of recurrent mega-fires, widespread flooding, devastating storms, recurrent drought, accelerating ice melts and sea rise, loss of habitat and the extinction of wildlife, record-setting heat.

Every year gets worse, leading to increased famine, disease, migration of displaced populations, collapsing economies, and hostility worldwide. Global warming is a real, profound, existential threat.

We cannot lose four more years to climate change denial, the reversal of environmental protections, and an isolationist refusal to collaborate with other nations for the survival of our shared planet. The current administration has proven willfully incapable of addressing this crisis.

Vote for your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We must elect new leadership that trusts science and will act fast to help stop global warming.
