CVS Pharmacies announced Thursday that the company is opening 22 drive-thru COVID-19 testing sites at pharmacies in Missouri. On the list for testing sites include stores in Blue Springs, Independence, Kansas City, Lee’s Summit, Platte City, Raymore and others.The sites will use self-swab tests that have been approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. CVS officials said at the end of April that they hoped the company could process up to 1.5 million tests per month to help track the prevalence of the virus during the pandemic.“CVS Health has been at the forefront of helping our nation scale-up COVID-19 testing capabilities, and we’re proud to meet our goal of establishing 1,000 testing sites in communities across the country,” Larry J. Merlo, president and CEO, CVS Health. “Opening access to testing in more locations using our drive-thru window represents an important milestone in our response to the pandemic. We remain grateful for the daily efforts and sacrifices of our front-line colleagues who make the continued expansion of our testing possible.”Company officials said that more than half of the company’s test sites were chosen in communities identified as in need of support by the CDC’s Social Vulnerability Index. The index tracks variables such as poverty, lack of access to transportation, and instances of crowded housing.“COVID-19 testing is critical to Missouri’s full recovery from this crisis. The more testing we do, the more data and knowledge we have on the situation in Missouri, and the better-equipped we are to move forward,” Missouri Gov. Mike Parson said. “These testing sites will be a huge help as we continue to increase testing in Missouri, and we are grateful for CVS’s commitment to slowing the spread and keeping our citizens healthy and safe.”Anyone wanting a test must meet CDC criteria as well as state and age guidelines. Patients interested must register in advance and schedule an appointment.
