Ceremony Honoring American Revolution Patriot Scheduled For Saturday Is Postponed To Oct. 10

The ceremony scheduled for Saturday to honor Revolutionary War veteran Charles Thurman has been postponed to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10.

The John Sevier Chapter of the Tennessee Society Sons of the American Revolution in coordination with the Thurman Family and Frostbite Farm Company will conduct a ceremony honoring Mr. Thurman by unveiling a patriotic memorial marker at his grave site in the Old Lone Cedar Cemetery (In-Active), Bledsoe County.  

The ceremony is open to the public.  The land owner has requested those attending sign the Hold Harmless agreement that can be found on the John Sevier Chapter website.  Sign in will be conducted at the noted linkup point prior to entering the property.  Directions to the cemetery can be found at the John Sevier Chapter web site: https://johnsevierchapter.org/patriot-honors.  (See the Linkup point download).

The ceremony will feature a presentation of colors by the John Sevier TNSSAR Color Guard, Bagpipe music and Taps with members in Revolutionary War period uniforms.

Patriot Thurman is not only a veteran of the Revolutionary War, but also an early settler of Bledsoe County, who has numerous descendants residing in the local region and in several states.  Several direct descendants of Mr.

Thurman will be present for the ceremony.  The family plans to conduct a reunion after the ceremony.  A biography highlighting the patriot’s service will be presented during the ceremony.  A copy of the biography for the ceremony can be found on the John Sevier Chapter website.
