Hong Kong, June 21: A 23-year-old Eczema patient and her parents were found dead on Monday in an apartment in Hong Kong. The woman, Pang Ching-yu, is suspected to have stabbed her parents to death, before taking her own life, according to news reports.

In a press conference, Yan Fong-wai, assistant district commander of Tuen Mun district, said,”In the 23-year-old’s bedroom, we found a suicide note.” Tormented by Eczema, the woman had written a suicide note that describes her longtime struggle with the chronic skin condition which causes red, itchy patches.

The South China Morning Post reportedly said that the disorder made her believe that she would be “better dead than alive.” CNN reported that Pang Ching-yu had apparently blamed her parents for her medical condition in her blog that said, “people with eczema giving birth to kids are worse than poor people giving birth to kids. If you’re poor, you can rely on your own hard work. With eczema, sorry, you have to suffer (your whole life) with no change.”

In response to the reporters in Cantonese, Yan Fong-wai said that the woman has explained in her suicide note that she was “struggling with some disease that makes her feel that to live is worse than to die.”Authorities came to know about the incident through a relative who informed that the woman and her parents did not respond at the door of their apartment on Lung Mun Road in Tuen Mun.

Police stated that Pang Ching-yu’s head was covered with a plastic bag which was connected to a three-foot-long plastic pipe leading to a gas canister. Her father, 60, had stab wounds in his chest while her mother, 56, had stab wounds in her chest, waist and leg, police said.

A bloodstained knife was discovered in the kitchen by investigators. Authorities upon conducting investigations stated that the three of them died in about 24 hours.

According to the Mayo Clinic, “Eczema, or atopic dermatitis, is a common skin condition, especially in children, that causes dry, itchy and scaly patches to appear on the skin.” Through prescription creams, ointments and oral medications, this medical condition can be treated.
