Carrington, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—-It took an extra inning as Carrington Post 25 scored it’s game winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a Kidder County error as Grady Shipman scored after an errant throw from shortstop to first base. Carrington would only score 1 earned run overall & took advantage of 6 Kidder County errors to earn the victory. Kidder County (KC) started the game with a 2-0 lead after the first inning. Starting pitcher Jayden Rath, no decision, drilled a double to the right-center field gap to leadoff the game & scored on a Tommy Thompson single. Rath went 4-4 in the game with 2 doubles, 2 runs, RBI, 2 stolen bases, and a BB to pace the KC offense. Thompson went 3-5 with 2 RBI. Blake Braun also had a multi-hit game for KC going 2-5.

KC outhit Carrington 13 to 5, but defensively had too many miscues & some untimely walks and hit batters that allowed Post 25 multiple runners & scoring opportunities. Carrington tied the game in the second inning scoring 2 unearned runs. Kael Kovar (0-1, 2 runs, RBI squeeze bunt, BB, HPB) scored the first run on Noah Paulson’s RBI squeeze bunt. Trent Ekren, after reaching on an error later scored on Grady Shipman’s RBI single. Shipman went 1-4, run, RBI, BB.

KC would add 2 runs in the fourth inning & 2 more in the fifth inning and had a 6-3 lead before Carrington would score 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 6-6. All 3 runs were unearned, created by 2 KC errors. The inning was also aided by 2 walks & 2 hit batters.

Hudson Schmitz was the starting pitcher for Carrington, working the first five innings allowing all 6 KC runs (4 earned), struck out 6 batters, 2 BB, 1 hit batter. Ethan Buskness worked the final 3 innings & did not allow any runs picking up the victory.  Buskness struck out 3 batters, allowed 4 hits, and hit a batter. KC stranded 13 base runners including the bases loaded in the first inning & sixth inning. Buskness also went 2-4 at the plate with a double and hit by pitch. Blake Pfaff pitched the final 2 innings & took the loss allowing the unearned run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Carrington improved to 2-0 overall & Kidder County dropped it’s season opener, now 0-1. Carrington will travel to Tolna to play Nelson County on June 18th at 5:30 & the game will be aired on AM 1600 KDAK (THE CARDINAL), FM 100.1, and www.newsdakota.com
