Eugene Johnson, 64, was sentenced Friday, Aug. 23, 2019, for the 2016 murder of Alberta Harris, 50, of Lee County.

A Lehigh Acres man was sentenced Friday to life in prison for the murder of a school bus driver who was a mother of six, the State Attorney's Office said in a news release.

Eugene Johnson, 64, was convicted of second-degree murder in the 2016 killing of Alberta Harris, 50.

The verdict and sentencing happened just after 5 p.m., after a trial in Hendry County.

Harris had been reported missing by her family in April 2016. A couple of days later, her car was found in the Fleamasters Flea Market parking lot on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

There was blood on the seat and a broken window, the news release said.

Ten days after she was reported missing, Harris' body was found in a rural area of Hendry County.

Johnson was a boyfriend of the victim.

His wife testified she picked him up from the same parking lot where the victim's car was found, the same day that Harris had disappeared, according to the news release.

Johnson's DNA was found on a work shirt that belonged to Harris.

Johnson had been convicted of murder more than 30 years ago in Collier County for stabbing a former lover to death, the news release said.
