Body Found Outside Lakeville Day Care Center; Man In Custody

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A man is in custody after police in the south metro found a woman's body early Tuesday morning in a day care center parking lot.

The Lakeville Police Department says officers found the body around 2:40 a.m. while responding to a welfare check in the parking lot of New Horizon Academy, located on the 9000 block of 203rd Street West.

Investigators say the victim, a female, appeared to have suffered injuries, although they did not specify the nature of the wounds. The victim's name has yet to be released.

A man is in custody in connection to the investigation.

Authorities in Belle Plaine, which is about 30 miles west of Lakeville, said they responded overnight to a 911 call about a suicidal man attempting to enter an apartment building.

Responding officers found the man suffering from apparent self-inflicted wounds. The man told police about the victim in Lakeville, prompting dispatch to notify officials in that city.

The man is in custody at an area hospital, where he is receiving treatment for his wounds.

Investigators are working with New Horizon Academy to see what might have been captured on surveillance video at the day care center.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting local officials in the investigation. Authorities say there is no threat to the public at this time.

A GoFundMe has been set up.
