Prep Wrestling Roundup: Willmar finishes sixth at Rochester

Dec. 20—ROCHESTER — With five wrestlers finishing in the top eight of their respective weights, the Willmar wrestling team placed sixth at the Minnesota Christmas Tournament on Saturday at Rochester Community and Technical College.

The Cardinals wrapped the day up with 120 points. St. Michael-Albertville won with a score of 199.5, followed by Kasson-Mantorville (177.5), Simley (172.5), Stillwater (154) and Kaukauna, Wisconsin (134).

Conlan Carlson had the top finish for Willmar, placing third at 126 pounds. Braeden Erickson was fourth at 152 and Mason Swanson was fifth at 220. Jonas Anez finished sixth at 170 and Cavin Carlson added an eighth-place finish at 106.

On Thursday, the Cardinals compete in a triangular at St. Cloud Tech against the host Crush and Bemidji.

Redwood River Riot

Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City won the team title at the 34-team Redwood River Riot at Redwood Falls.

The Falcons' 162.5 was good enough to beat Dawson-Boyd/Lac qui Parle Valley/Montevideo's 144.5 and Dassel-Cokato/Litchfield's 138.5. Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg was 13th (91), New London-Spicer was 19th (60) and BOLD placed 27th (29.5).

ACGC's Jaxon Behm was the 220-pound champion while Jake Mortensen was second at 170 and Brady Holien third at 152.

Other area champions were: D-C/Litch's Victor Franco (120) and Jude Link (160); and KMS' Trey Gunderson (106).
