SUMMIT, NJ — Judging from this year's reports from the Summit Police Department, it would be wise to invest in a lock if you're leaving valuable items in the locker of your workplace.

Police responded to a business at Kent Place Boulevard on Feb. 3 at 5:17 p.m. on a report of theft of clothing from an unsecured locker. Among the items taken were a Summit Junior Baseball Warmup hoodie, a Summit Junior Baseball quarter zip jacket, a gray Under Armor backpack, a black Garmin watch, and a custom hoodie sweatshirt. The total value of the stolen items was approximately $405. (So if you see someone in a Summit baseball outfit that doesn't quite fit, consider that bases might not be all that they're stealing.)

Meanwhile, the next day, at 8:14 p.m., police responded to a Maple Street business on a report of a theft of a cell phone from an unsecured locker room. The missing Apple iPhone 11 was valued at approximately $1,000.

The same day, police responded to a report was taken for a theft from a locker at a River Road business. The victim said that credit card companies called him to say that someone was trying to make "substantial purchases" with his cards at a mall. He checked his wallet. Someone had taken $40 cash and five credit cards, even though his locker had been secured. When the victim called to cancel the cards, he found out the thief already had made $6,820 in purchases.

The sneakers were valued at $300. (If you're unhip, here's a pair of Zebra Yeezys. Kanye West is reportedly working on special basketball Yeezys.)

Not all of the business thefts were from lockers. On Jan. 27, police responded to a Springfield Avenue business. The victim said someone took 24 pairs of pants from a table in front of the business. The total value was $3,312.

On Jan. 31, someone said $45 in cash was stolen from a wallet at a Maple Street business between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. The slim, brown wallet had been left unattended for a time. Nothing else was reported missing from it.

On Jan. 31, police responded to an attempted burglary to a Beechwood Road business. The victim reported the incident occurred at approximately 11:41 p.m. the day before when a man "with a slender build, wearing a baseball cap and a hood pulled over the cap" entered the business. The individual was observed trying to open drawers near the cash register. But the business owners couldn't find anything of value removed.
