PROVIDENCE, RI — Rhode Island's total number of coronavirus-associated deaths passed 500 Monday with the addition of seven new fatalities, bringing the total to 506. The Rhode Island Department of Health also reported 121 new cases, bringing the cumulative total to 12,756.

As of Monday, 236 people are in the hospital, continuing the state's downward trend from a peak of 373 April 28. There are currently 62 people in intensive care units and 46 people on ventilators.

These downward trends or plateaus in cases and hospitalizations must continue for the state to safely enter phase two of reopening, Gov. Gina Raimondo said last week. Phase two is currently projected to start in the first week of June.
