A damage survey by the National Weather Service confirms an EF-1 tornado tore a short path through Atchison County, Kansas Tuesday night.The NWS confirms that tornado started at 7:08 p.m. 2 miles northwest of Effingham, Kansas.The tornado lasted for approximately nine minutes and cut a 4.5 mile-long and 30 yard-wide path through the county, eventually ending 6 miles north of Effingham. The tornado reached estimated peak winds of 90 miles per hour. The Atchison County Emergency Management Agency said on Facebook Tuesday night that an abandoned home and several outbuildings were damaged by that tornado.An EF-1 is categorized as a weak tornado with winds ranging between 86 to 110 miles per hour.This information from the National Weather Service is preliminary. No injuries were reported.
