MATTAWAN, MI -- The Michigan Humane Society is now accepting adoption applications for 36 beagles formerly used for animal testing at a Mattawan lab.

A link to an application form is posted on the Humane Society’s Facebook page.

The beagles were recently released to the Humane Society from Corteva AgroScience, a division of DowDuPont.

Workers at Charles River Laboratories in Mattawan were doing testing on the animals for Corteva but controversy erupted following a Humane Society of the United States undercover investigation.

Corteva leaders last month said they would stop the testing, which was being done as part of a project with a Brazilian governmental agency. Braziilian officials agreed the testing was no longer required for the product being studied.

According to the Humane Society, applications for adoptions must be submitted online by 8 p.m. Sunday, April 14.
