Denmark’s Ramboll will help tap the power cruising the breezes off Virginia’s coast, according to Dominion Energy, who selected them this week to support development and engineering for the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project.

That project is expected to begin in 2024 and, once in service in 2026, to produce a total of 2,600 MW of renewable energy — enough energy to power 650,000 homes. Dominion said the selection of Ramboll, a leading consultant in offshore wind power, goes a long way toward making it happen. Ramboll has completed projects in 21 countries, from wind farm planning to detailed, technical engineering work. Here, the company will work on development, supply chain strategy, layouts, and yield assessments.

“Ramboll is a respected, global leader in the offshore wind industry and their expertise will prove to be a valuable asset as we develop our Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project,” Mark Mitchell, Dominion Energy’s vice president of generation construction, said. “Working with experienced offshore wind leaders, such as Ramboll, will help us bring clean, renewable energy to our customers and achieve our goal of net zero emissions.”

Ramboll will be building on work started by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, the company selected to manufacture the wind turbines for the project. Those turbines will be planted on 112,800 acres located 27 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach. They will help support Dominion’s efforts to achieve net zero CO2 and methane emissions from power generation and gas infrastructure operations by 2050.

“We are proud that Dominion Energy has selected us as its trusted partner for such a strategically important role in its ambitious offshore wind project,” Tim Fischer, Ramboll’s global offshore wind director, said. “The project allows us to not only bring to the table our experience in project development and owner’s engineering, but also in-depth expertise in detailed engineering and design across all relevant project packages, which makes us unique in the market and provides Dominion Energy with an effecSiemens Gamesa Renewable Energytive one-stop-shop solution.”
