Health Care Cleveland—COVID, 2020 and Beyond

A Series of Health Care Forums Addressing Today’s Most Demanding Global Health Care Issues

The first presidential debate leading up to the election in November was held on September 29 at the Health Education Campus, where candidates addressed demanding health care issues in addition to other critical topics. Cleveland is the nation’s leader in health care research and delivery, innovation, biotechnology, medical and interprofessional education, and health care reform.

During the week before the debate, Case Western Reserve’s School of Medicine hosted a series of live virtual forums featuring leaders in the health care field covering pressing issues affecting global health care today.

The four forums were led by experts across our faculty, affiliates (Cleveland Clinic, MetroHealth System, University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and the Cleveland VA Medical Center) and national and community health partners. Each consisted of a health care topic discussion with a moderator and a panel of experts, and a chat room for the audience to submit questions.

School of Medicine students hosted a fifth forum featuring future clinicians and scientists in training, describing their experiences with interprofessional education, what health care means to them, and their vision for the future.

Medical and community health care professionals and groups, government officials, faculty, staff, students and the general public were invited to watch the forums.

Each discussion lasted one hour, including a 40- to 45-minute panel discussion and a 15- to 20-minute question and answer session.
