COVID-19 Continues To Spread In Lorain County

Lorain County ranks in the top 20 of Ohio counties for most COVID-19 spread per capita.

AVON, OH — Lorain County, like much of Ohio, remains "red" for its COVID-19 spread, the Ohio Department of Health announced this week.

According to new statistics, Lorain County ranks among the top 20 of Ohio counties for most COVID-19 spread per capita. The state health department said Lorain County has 685.5 cases per 100,000 residents, the 19th highest COVID-19 occurrence out of Ohio's 88 counties.

Between Jan. 6 and Jan. 19, there were 2,124 active COVID-19 cases among Lorain County residents.

Statewide, COVID-19 continues to spread rapidly. Of Ohio's 88 counties, 83 are "red" for spread, one is "purple" (the worst possible designation, and four are "orange."

"Out of any 200 Ohioans, at least one has tested positive for COVID during the past two weeks. We still have more than one out of four patients who are COVID positive in our ICUs," Gov. Mike DeWine said Thursday.

The governor extended the state's 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew this week. Details on that extension have not yet been released.
