Actor Paul Rudd Makes Mask-Wearing PSA Aimed At Millennials

DUTCHESS COUNTY, NY — "Certified young person" and Marvel movie star Paul Rudd wants you to wear a mask. The Dutchess County resident was asked by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to help spread the word — especially to younger people — about the importance of wearing face coverings during the new coronavirus pandemic to protect themselves and others.

Cuomo said the country is still battling the COVID-19 pandemic "and young people are not immune from it.

"We all need to do our part and wear a mask," he said.

The governor said during a radio interview Tuesday that he is frustrated with younger people, who are coming back to college and wanting to party and drink.

"Younger people at protests, they're not wearing their masks, they think they are invincible," Cuomo said to Jay Oliver, of Long Island News Radio.

Cuomo called Rudd, who is a co-owner of Samuel's Sweet Shop in Rhinebeck, a "masterful performer," and said the video was "funny as heck."

The governor said he met Rudd at an event and suggested doing a public service announcement targeting young people.

Rudd, who is 51 years old, agreed to the project and said in the video that Cuomo thought he was 26 and didn't correct him — hence calling him a "certified young person."

Later during the video Rudd calls himself a Yas Queen and pretend calls singer Billie Eilish.

He said that "caring about other people is the new not caring about other people" and ends a rap by saying, "Just wear a mask. It's easy. It's simple. Please. It's not hard. People are dying. Hundreds of thousands of people are dying.

"I shouldn't have to make it fun," he said. "It's science!"
