Community Coronavirus Test Sites Closed For 2nd Day

ILLINOIS — All community-based testing sites for the coronavirus in Illinois were closed for a second day on Tuesday, the Illinois Department of Public Health announced. The sites include those in Auburn/Gresham/Chatham, Aurora, Champaign, East. St. Louis, Harwood Heights, Peoria, Rockford, Rolling Meadows, South Holland and Waukegan.

The announcement came just after midnight Sunday as public transportation and businesses across the state were shut down this weekend due to protests and looting in Chicago and other cities.

Metra suspended all service on Monday and Tuesday "for the safety of the public and our employees," the agency said. The CTA also ended service at 9:30 p.m. Monday, resuming Tuesday morning.

On Sunday, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said she was "absolutely worried" about a potential new outbreak of the coronavirus in the wake of the widespread protests over the weekend in response to the killing of an African American man in Minneapolis last week. George Floyd, 46, died after a police officer placed a knee on his neck, even as Floyd pleaded that he couldn't breathe, according to video of the incident.
