Marvin Coleman scored three goals in a six-minute span of the season half, while Robert Banghegysi scored the other goal for the Coral Glades Jaguars in a 4-1 win over host Stoneman Douglas High School in the District 12-7A boys soccer semifinals.

Gabe Gersberg gave Stoneman Douglas a 1-0 halftime lead before the Jaguars scored four unanswered goals in the second half to snap a three-game losing skid and end the Eagles’ season.

Stoneman Douglas coach Christian Chacon said he enjoyed coaching in his first season at the school.

It was a whole new thing for me, the first year going,” he said. “It was a different experience, a different type of game and different types of kids as well.

“It was a very good learning experience for me and I hope next year that I come up big,” Chacon said. “There were different types of levels. I had some kids, some freshmen, that put in a little more work than some of the others that I didn’t expect, and I had some seniors that put in more work than you would expect as well.”

Chacon said he enjoyed being around the players.

“I will remember the kids and their personalities,” he said. “There were some jokes, and there was good chemistry all around. I loved the fact that they took it seriously, even though it was high school.

“A lot of kids always want to win districts,” he said, “and I was definitely one of them when I was in high school. I see the work that they put into it and I learned a lot this year.”

Stoneman Douglas (6-5-2) finished with ties against Cypress Bay and Pembroke Pines Charter in addition to quality wins over Monarch and Coral Springs.

Coral Glades went on to win the district title for the first time in school history and made the postseason for just the third time in school history. It lost in the regional quarterfinal game to Spanish River, 2-1 in overtime.
