REGIONAL — Cottonwood County recorded another eight residents who tested positive for COVID-19 during the 24-hour reporting period that ended at 4 p.m. Sunday. Meanwhile, Jackson County had six new cases, Murray, Nobles and Rock counties each reported two new cases and Pipestone County had one new case, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.
The new cases were among 1,994 reported during the one-day period. The cumulative total of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases statewide now stands at 544,046 (positive and antigen tests), with 518,658 beyond the 10-day isolation period. Thus far, 40,001 Minnesota health care workers have contracted the virus.
Another two deaths were recorded for the day, including one from a private residence and one from an assisted living or long-term care facility. Minnesota’s death toll from the virus now stands at 6,959, including 4,319 residents of long-term care facilities.
A local snapshot of COVID-19, with current cumulative positive and probable test results and deaths as reported by MDH, recovery data (beyond the 10-day isolation period) as of April 8, and the percentage of residents aged 16 and older who have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as of Saturday shows:
Nobles County: 3,968 cases; 3,866 recoveries; 48 deaths; 53%.
Cottonwood County: 1,525 cases; 1,426 recoveries; 20 deaths; 50%.
Jackson County: 1,147 cases; 1,011 recoveries; 10 deaths; 43%.
Murray County: 1,016 cases; 969 recoveries; nine deaths; 47%.
Pipestone County: 1,075 cases; 1,024 recoveries; 25 deaths; 48%.
Rock County: 1,212 cases; 1,173 recoveries; 18 deaths; 44%.
A saliva testing site for COVID-19 is open at the Worthington Event Center from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The testing site will be closed April 18-19, April 29-30, May 1-2 and May 6-9.

Area long-term care facilities reporting COVID-19 exposures as of April 8, include Colonial Manor and Valley View Assisted Living in Lakefield; Good Samaritan Society facilities in Windom, Jackson and Pipestone; Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton and Ecumen Meadows in Worthington.
All Minnesota residents aged 16 and older are now eligible for coronavirus vaccines. The Public Health department encourages all eligible individuals to seek vaccination. Private providers in Worthington include Access Family Medical Clinic/Avera Medical Group, Hy-Vee Pharmacy, Sanford Health, Sterling Drug and Walgreens.
The Iowa Department of Health reports 385,877 cases of COVID-19 since testing began. Thus far, 5,857 deaths are blamed on the novel coronavirus in the state.
In northwest Iowa:
Dickinson County: 2,561 positive cases (one new case); 2,066 recovered; 43 deaths.
Lyon County: 1,538 positive cases (no new cases); 1,438 recovered; 41 deaths.
Osceola County: 764 positive cases (no new cases); 672 recovered; 16 deaths.
Johns Hopkins University reports a nationwide cumulative total of 31,202,818 positive cases of COVID-19 as of 10:30 a.m. Monday. Thus far, 562,096 Americans have died from the virus.
