UPDATE: The accident was cleared as of 9:45 p.m.

The westbound side of Route 22 was closed shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday for an accident.

The crash happened in the area of the MacArthur Road/Route 145 exit. PennDOT traffic cameras showed traffic being diverted off the highway there.

By 8:30 p.m., PennDOT maps showed westbound traffic backing up beyond the Fullerton Avenue exit. Eastbound traffic was backed up to Route 309.

Police could not immediately be reached for additional comment on the accident.

It was not immediately known when the westbound highway may reopen.
