Alcohol involved in Pope County crash that injured driver

A 27-year-old man from Starbuck was injured in a one-vehicle crash Thursday night in Starbuck. Alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, according to the State Patrol

STARBUCK – Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a one-vehicle crash Thursday night in Pope County that injured the driver.

The crash was reported at 11:15 p.m. on state Highway 114 and East Ninth Street in the Starbuck city limits.

According to the State Patrol, Cody William Tapio, 27, of Starbuck, was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze south on Highway 114, which is also known as Main Street, when the vehicle entered the east ditch and struck a telephone pole and several mailboxes.

Tapio was taken to the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood with non-life-threatening injuries. According to the State Patrol accident report Tapio was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Road conditions were dry.

The Starbuck Police Department, Starbuck Fire Department, Pope County Sheriff’s Office and the Glacial Ridge Ambulance responded to the scene.
