Where to stream Toy Story online

You’re now able to stream Toy Story on Disney+ wherever you’re connected to the internet. Disney’s new direct-to-consumer streaming service is now available in the U.S. and Canada and will eventually be rolling out worldwide.

Disney+ is supported on desktop browsers, “a wide range” of mobile devices, smart TVs, and video-game consoles. The subscription-based platform will serve as the new home for Walt Disney Studios films as well as original, exclusive Disney+ content like Lucasfilm’s new Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, and a full slate of live-action Marvel shows.

What is Toy Story about?

Pixar’s first feature-length movie wasn’t just a one-of-a-kind technical marvel. It was also a heartwarming story about family, the inexorability of change throughout one’s life, and the nature of nostalgia.

Most everyone moves to a new home at some point in their life; most everyone grows out of one phase of their childhood and finds new toys and obsessions to fuel their imagination. And there’s a timeless quality to the picture, despite the cutting-edge nature of the computer animation used at the time. Andy’s (anthropomorphic) toys could be anybody’s toys; there’s a familiarity to his childhood bedroom, his manner of play, his excitement at getting a new spaceman figure, and even his loss of interest in Woody, the cowboy who’d always been his favorite toy before Buzz Lightyear.

When Buzz—who struggles with the news that he’s a toy, and not a real “space ranger”—is held captive by the mischievous neighbor boy, Sid, Woody feels partly responsible. So Woody stages a daring rescue, and helps his newfound friend get to the safety of the toybox on the day of Andy’s big move to a new house.

Toy Story was a revolutionary film in more ways than one, and a decade and a half later, we’re still thinking about it,” USA Today’s Kelly Lawler wrote recently. “The movie put Pixar on the map, it pioneered computer animation, and it featured all the ingredients we have come to know and love in so many of the Pixar movies that followed: emotional storytelling, action sequences, insights on the human condition, all-star voice cast, and protagonists you never would have thought of yourself. It was hard to top, but eventually they did.”

The movie stars Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Don Rickles, Jim Varney, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger, Annie Potts, John Morris, Erik von Detten, Laurie Metcalf, and R. Lee Ermey.
