Coastal Cleanup In San Clemente All September Long

SAN CLEMENTE, CA — With no centralized cleanups planned due to coronavirus, every Saturday in September has become "Coastal Cleanup Day."

Every year, millions of tons of trash enters the ocean, according to the California Coastal Commission.

Cleaning your neighborhoods, local parks, streets, and storm drains helps protect our coast. You can stop the amount of trash that travels through storm drains, creeks, and rivers to become beach and ocean pollution. Simply pick up litter in your community with your household.

Californians across the state will take to their beaches, sidewalks, and parks for this year’s #CoastalCleanup.

The California Coastal Commission invites you, your family, to don your PPE, and stop trash where it starts: at your door.

  • If you are sick? Stay home.

  • Download the Clean Swell App to track your progress!

  • Maintain social distance of everyone you encounter, even while wearing a mask.

  • Do not pick up sharp objects, especially syringes!

  • Don't pick up anything too heavy.

  • Be mindful of conditions, watch for tides and sneaker waves!

  • Do not pick up anyone's discarded PPE without grabbers!

  • Finally, show your cleanup by posting to social media with the hashtags: #coastalcleanupday and #protectyourhappyplace

With everyone’s help, we #protectyourhappyplace by keeping California’s beaches clean.
