MARBLE HILL, MO (KFVS) - The Chief of Marble Hill, Missouri says the town has a suicide problem.

Chief Marc Tragesser said his department receives two to three suicide calls a week, more than he's dealt with in any other jurisdiction he's worked in.

In a Facebook post, Chief Tragesser says it's such a concern that he and his officers are getting more training on dealing with suicide and suicide prevention in an attempt to make a difference in the community.

He wants residents in his area to know he and his officers are there for anyone who may need help.

"I want to be more involved," said Tragesser. "Since I've been to this area like I said before, we've had calls before I work but I've never had two or three a week. It's pretty intense here. Since I've posted that, there's been individuals that have contacted and said that they have programs available and we're wanting to be more proactive in that."

The chief says since posting on Facebook several local organizations have reached out to help them get more involved and be better equipped to help those who need it.
