Part of his extended family include: three brothers-in-law, Larry Forte, Oldtown, MD, Michael Forte, Smith Mt. Lake, VA and the very special Tony Forte, Hagerstown; and numerous nieces and nephews. Tony was more like a brother to Carvel. They enjoyed a special bond and friendship, especially over the last 20 years.Born July 31, 1935 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was preceded in death by his parents, Donna McAlee and William Carvel Wright Sr.; and brother, Earl Wright.Carvel had a zest for life. He was loved and loved people. It is a well-known fact that anywhere he went, here or across the country, Carvel would run into someone he knew. Carvel will be missed and fondly remembered by all.Carvel began a lifelong career in computer programming as a senior systems analyst, working on an IBM Univac I in 1958 while employed by the Carborundum Company in Niagara Falls. During his career, Carvel held positions as a computer analyst/programmer. Carvel was also a computer consultant and instructor at Hagerstown Business College and Hagerstown Community College. He was proud to be part of HCC’s “Learning in Retirement Program,” teaching senior citizens Computer Basics at the Valley Mall Campus. He served his country in the Army National Guard during the Korean War.Realizing the positive impact of the Boy Scouts of America, he was involved as a BSA Counselor, Troop Leader and Committee Chairman; he spent many summer vacations with the Scouts at Sinoquipe Scout Reservation in Pennsylvania.Carvel loved acting in many of this region’s local theatre groups, including the Washington County Playhouse (Hagerstown) and the Apollo Civic Theatre (Martinsburg), always sporting his famous handle bar moustache and beard.Carvel was respected and admired as an active citizen of the Town of Boonsboro. He is remembered as a dedicated employee, volunteer and team player in the Town of Boonsboro Government, where he served as Zoning Administrator and later chair of the Planning and Zoning Commission. His role as a civil servant spanned more than 20 years.Carvel’s love of music began as a youth in elementary school, studying to play the jazz clarinet and piano, resulting in his musical journey. He was choir director for Congregation of Bnai Abraham and Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church, Hagerstown, as well as several other local churches. He was a charter member of The Saint Cecilia Choral Society and supported many musical organizations and activities in the area.He possessed a strong Christian faith and worshipped for 45 years at Saint John’s Episcopal Church, where Carvel served on numerous committees and commissions. During these 45 years, he was a proud member of Saint John’s Parish Choir. He cherished the experiences of the Parish Choir, being the invited guest choir to sing at the following venues: Cathedral of Saint John the Divine (New York City), Trinity Cathedral (Pittsburgh) and Washington National Cathedral, as well as the choir’s participation twice in the Royal School of Church Music Choir Festival (Baltimore). His devotion and passion to the church and choir are beyond description. Carvel will be remembered for his crystal clear tenor voice, and in later years, his robust bass voice. Fittingly, his lifelong love of music came full circle as he parted this Earth to sing with God’s Heavenly Choir.Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a memorial service and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.In lieu of flowers, donations to The Music Ministry, Saint John’s Episcopal Church, 101 S.
