Leica Microsystems Introduces New Leica EM PACT2: The First Compact, High-Pressure Freezer with EM RTS Rapid Transfer System

Bannockburn, Illinois. The NEW Leica EM PACT2 High-Pressure Freezer with EM RTS Rapid Transfer System is the first step in the preparation of samples for many microscope techniques.

The Leica EM PACT2 is designed to help researchers achieve reproducible results for localization and characterization of organelles and subcellular components. The high-pressure freezing system allows high-quality specimen freezing up to 200µm into the specimen for subsequent sectioning and observation in an electron microscope.
This fully mobile instrument only needs to be connected to a standard power supply and comes with its own compressor located on the same trolley. Any fluid can be used as a hydraulic fluid, and specimen pods are maintenance-free.

The menu-driven color touchscreen guides the user through the fresh to frozen process in 5 seconds. The touchscreen features prompt windows, which makes it easy to use. After freezing, pressure and temperature curves can be observed, then stored and downloaded via memory stick to a PC.

The Leica EM RTS rapid transfer system is an innovative accessory designed for correlative LM/EM, i.e., for time resolution studies in conjunction with confocal microscopy. A cell can be viewed under the confocal microscope, then quickly frozen with the EM PACT2/EM RTS, allowing the same cell to be viewed in the electron microscope. The EM RTS can also be used to enhance the speed of taking a biopsy in conjunction with the Leica's new Microbiopsy Transfer System. With a turn-around time of 30 seconds for the EM PACT2, samples can be frozen at twice the rate of other high-pressure freezers.
