Hey, they're gonna do the College Football Playoff again. And there are gonna be dozens of other bowl games again.

None of it's happening for a while, but college football's getting pretty close, so we should start guessing where everybody will end up, if that's OK with you. Some people don't like guessing, but that's cool.

Below are my guesses, based on an offseason of reading Bill Connelly's team previews and lots of other stuff, then going through each FBS team's schedule, game by game -- I picked your team to beat your biggest rival -- and then being unhappy with LSU's record, no matter how much I changed it.

Let's do this by group. First, the three biggest games of the year, where three or four teams were kind of obvious eight months ago, making you wonder what the point of the offseason was anyway. Oh, right, Jim Harbaugh not wearing a shirt that one time. That was the point.

College Football Playoff

That's a pretty conventional top four, but I'm not gonna force somebody up there just to be different.

• Ohio State might be the most obvious championship pick in the last century of college football. No, seriously; they're the first unanimous Associated Press preseason No. 1 ever, which covers 79 years. Urban Meyer returns almost everyone from a dominant champion, has a friendly schedule and has so many star quarterbacks, he moved one to receiver.
• Alabama feels like a default, despite so much being in doubt. So much talent to again replace. Quarterback is a mystery. But, as Bill wrote in his SEC rankings, a finish outside the top 10 for anybody else in the SEC wouldn't be a surprise. For the Tide, it would. With a big name and a big-name schedule (out of division: Wisconsin, at Georgia, Tennessee, hypothetical SEC East champ), a one-loss Bama would be in.
• Oregon is the one I'm the least confident in. The Ducks will be great, and an Oregon QB competition isn't that worrisome, but the Pac-12 is hard. If Oregon loses at Michigan State, that means the Ducks might have to win 10 Pac-12 games in a row.
• Baylor might be better than TCU again, but the Frogs host. And that trip to Minnesota makes TCU's schedule look so much tougher than Baylor's, whether it's that big of a deal or not. Yes, the Playoff will be exactly like 2014 every year forever.
• More importantly, we'd finally get the Alabama-Oregon game we've thirsted over for almost a decade now.

New Year's Six bowls

This year, the rotation sets up so that there are only four totally open spots. Once we know the Playoff, we'll likely know how half the other Playoff committee games set up. And with both of those open bowls on different sides of the country, it should be pretty obvious who's going where.

• Boise State might lack the schedule to get into the Playoff even at 13-0 (that exact thing probably would've happened in a 2009 Playoff). The Broncos annihilating people who turn in mediocre records, then playing a big name in the Fiesta Bowl: the Playoff is a totally different era.
• Could Michigan State beat the Pac-12's two division champs and only lose to the No. 1 team, all without making the Playoff? It could. I believe it'll be a long time before one conference gets two teams in.
• Hey, it's Ole Miss in a huge bowl against a Big 12 team. Nothing will go wrong.
• A young FSU emerges from a debacle of an ACC (seriously, figuring out ACC wins and losses took about as much time as everyone else combined) to get a 2013 BCS rematch with Auburn, and any Tigers fans disappointed with nine or 10 wins suddenly have a bowl worth caring about.

As always, conference affiliations are not necessarily based on standings.

As always, my bias in picking these is in favor of rivalry. Tell me Minnesota fans wouldn't start lining up right now for a crack at Bret Bielema.
