Potential Boston Celtics target No. 5) Ryan Broekhoff

While I can’t say that I’ve caught every Dallas Mavericks game during the past two years, my fondest memory of Ryan Broekhoff was last season against the Boston Celtics.

He touched the floor for exactly 47 seconds and finished with five points with the opportunity to score six, having missed the final free throw of his three-shot foul. Now imagine what he might do if we scale this up to 10 minutes a game.

Just imagine the results — to bring things back to reality, this was, in essence, the life of Ryan Broekhoff as he never averaged more than 11 minutes per game during his two years with the Mavericks, given that his sole job was to shoot the ball at every opportunity.

To be fair to Broekhoff and Celtics fans, most of his buckets last season came during garbage time.

However, during the 18-19 season, Broekhoff made the most of his non-garbage time minutes with 40 three-point attempts as he converted on an impressive 43 percent of them. After watching film on the Australian sharpshooter, Broekhoff’s height and ability to move off the ball gives him a distinct advantage spotting up out of the corner.

It was almost Duncan Robinson-esque, but without that lightning-quick release. Again, while it was on limited attempts, Broekhoff ranked in the 100th percentile during his first year in Dallas on these corner triples.

With the Toronto Raptors quietly picking up Nik Stauskas on a designated veteran G League contract, if Boston wants a pure floor spacer and nothing else, Broekoff may be their best bet to fill this role.
