MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A large rally was held near the intersection of Poplar Avenue and Perkins Extended in East Memphis on Wednesday as some residents called for legislators to support President Donald Trump and make changes to the election process.

Several dozen protesters attended a “Stop the Steal” rally. Many said they were concerned about allegations of voter fraud in recent elections. Those allegations have been perpetuated by President Trump, although all 50 states have certified their Nov. 3 election results.

“We as a people are saying enough,” said rally organizer Charlotte Bergmann. ‘We’re tired of being bamboozled. We’re tired of the okie-dokie. We’re gonna come out and we’re gonna let our voices be heard.”

They also called for integrity at the local level, saying they’re unhappy with how Shelby County elected officials have approached election issues.

Others had concerns about COVID-19 safety restrictions, saying they are frustrated about what they call government over-reach. \

Organizers said now, after Georgia’s senate runoff, is the perfect time to speak up and they wanted to make sure their voices were heard while President Donald Trump is still in office.
