COVID-19 in Johnson County: 56% of people fully vaccinated, 22 additional positive tests in last week

On Wednesday morning at 10 a.m., there were 22 additional reported COVID-19 cases in Johnson County since the state's tally seven days ago. A total of 85 people have died from the disease in the county, where 15,470 cases of COVID-19 have been reported since the pandemic hit Iowa.

As of Wednesday, according to the district's data dashboard, 39 students in the Iowa City Community School District are positive for COVID-19, the same number reported last week. Of this week's cases, two have been verified with a test and 37 are "presumed positive."

Two staff members are currently confirmed or suspected positive for COVID-19, according to the dashboard. The number of students in quarantine due to exposure was 38.

Vaccinations in Johnson County 

Johnson County has administered more than 176,593 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, as of June 8, according to data from the Iowa Department of Public Health.

That's up 2% from the previous week's tally of 173,061 COVID-19 doses administered.

In Johnson County, 56% of residents are fully vaccinated as of June 8. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers someone fully vaccinated two weeks after they've been given a single-dose shot (Johnson & Johnson) or a second shot (either Pfizer or Moderna).

Johnson County has the highest percentage of its population fully vaccinated in Iowa as of June 8.

The others in the top five are Dallas County (51%), Dubuque County (49%), Linn County (49%) and Winneshiek County (47%).

RMCC Region 5 includes Clinton, Des Moines, Henry, Iowa, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Keokuk, Lee, Muscatine, Scott, Van Buren, Wapello and Washington counties.
