TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — With Thanksgiving around the corner, Catholic Charities is providing help to the community in more ways than one.

On Saturday, the charity had a drive-thru food distribution set up at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School. Residents received food boxes that included fruits, vegetables, milk, meats and other items.

John Etling, agency director for Catholic Charities, says they served an excess of 300 households.

“Just continue to try and find ways to get food out to the community for those households,” said Etling. “Especially households that have children and seniors. We want to make sure they have good access to good nutritious food.”

Distributing food packages isn’t the only way Catholic Charities is helping the community this holiday season.

On November 24th, the charity will be having a soup kitchen to feed those in need as well but this dinner won’t be your average soup dinner.

“We call it a soup kitchen but it’s more than just a bowl of soup. The meal that’s going to be served on Tuesday is going to be very much a traditional Thanksgiving meal with turkey and dressing and all the trimmings,” said Etling.

COVID-19 measures will be taken on Tuesday with groups of 20 people coming in at a time and seated accordingly.
