A Vermont mixed-income housing complex has leased all 24 units ahead of schedule.

Shires Housing, co-owner of the Monument View apartments in Bennington, reports that the units are for households making between 60% and 120% of the area median income and is intended to address the towns shortage of affordable workforce housing.

Executive director of Shires Housing Stephanie Lane says the fact that the units fills so quickly demonstrates "the incredible need for affordable housing."

The Bennington Banner reports that tenants include people transitioning from being homeless, first-time renters and downsizing seniors.

Executive director of the Bennington County Regional Commission James Sullivan says the large number of applications indicates that there's "a demand for that type of housing in Bennington."
