The Provincial Government of Negros Occidental led by Governor Eugenio Jose V. Lacson, Provincial Agriculturist lawyer Japhet Masculino and Hinigaran Mayor Nady Arceo and Sugar Regulatory Administration Board member lawyer Dino Yulo witnessed the first harvest of the completed cycle of the Sugarcane-Rice Intercropping System Project at Hda. Bagacay, Barangayy Aranda, Hinigaran recently.
This is the pioneer host agricultural project which is a product of a collaborative endeavor by the Negros Occidental Office of the Provincial Agriculturist and Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) launched in June this year which aims to help Negrense farmers to be more productive by earning extra income.
The governor personally visited the farm and merged with the farmers to show his enthusiasm in the first yield out of the hard work of each and everyone with the help of the provincial government.
Governor Lacson thanked the farmers for their cooperation that contributed to the success of the program.
He also said that it will be replicated in other towns and cities in the province because it is one way of ensuring food security amidst the pandemic that has been affecting the province.
Provincial Agriculturist lawyer Japhet Masculino said that it is also part of maximizing the province’s 190,000 hectares of land devoted to mono-crop sugarcane farming.
The palay seeds were planted in the block farm of Hacienda Bagacay Workers CARPer Beneficiaries Association and are now ready for harvest after three months.
