Clarksville weather: Week started warm and sunny, frigid days with snow coming up

Snowflakes have been in short supply across much of Middle Tennessee this winter, and with the first day of spring now about a month away, we might get our last look at snow this weekend.

Clarksville-area residents could see a few snowflakes Thursday morning and Sunday morning, but National Weather Service Nashville meteorologist Brendan Schaper said it looks like nothing more than a dusting.

By contrast, the mercury climbed into the 60s earlier this week, giving many local residents spring fever.

On Wednesday, sunshine was prevalent with high temperatures expected to top out around 50 degrees.

"There is a chance for a little precipitation after midnight, mainly light rain or sprinkles heading into Thursday morning," Schaper said.

"With the air being colder from Nashville, northward, there could be a brief rain-snow mix with little or no accumulation Thursday morning," he said. Only higher elevations around the Cumberland Plateau could see a dusting to a half-inch based on current NWS projections.

That precipitation is expected to move out of the midstate Thursday afternoon as high temperatures get into the 40s.

Friday is expected to be a mostly dry day with high temperatures topping out in the 40s.

"This weekend we warm back up into the 40s to low 50s for highs on Saturday and Sunday," Schaper said.

Overnight lows on Friday could dip into the upper teens to low 20s, moderating into the mid-20s overnight on Saturday, and low- to- mid 30s early Sunday morning.

"There could be a couple of hours on Sunday morning when a little batch of precipitation moves in from the west, creating a rain-snow mix possibly around sunrise. Again, we are expecting no problems, and no accumulation with this," Schaper said, "but plan on mainly a wet day on Sunday."
