EXCLUSIVE: 'It'd be fun… get on with it' Michael Brandon on Dempsey and Makepeace revival

IT'S been almost three decades since Dempsey and Makepeace solved their final crime together, and now Michael Brandon has given fans hope that the characters could return to screens once again.

The actor, who portrayed Lt James Dempsey opposite his now-wife Glynis Barber in the 1980s drama, said he would "absolutely" be up for revisiting the role, but the writers need to "get on with it".

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the 71-year-old opened up about a possible rival of the ITV hit, while also admitting he was never eager to do a television show beforehand.

When asked if he'd like to be see Dempsey and Makepeace brought back, Michael commented: "It’s a question that has come back more times than where is the lost Beatles album? Sure, absolutely."

The star continued: "We had such a good time, it would have to be different and updated. That could be fun, if they wanted to get on with it!

"I read Dempsey and Makepeace and that’s how I wound up over here… Then life was good."

Michael is currently appearing in West End show Off The King's Road as American businessman Matt Browne alongside Cherie Lunghi.
