Woburn Coronavirus Update: 73 Cases, Horn Pond Parking Closed

Mayor Scott Galvin closed the park's parking lots Friday in an attempt to slow the spread of the new coronavirus.

WOBURN, MA — Woburn has 73 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus, as of Sunday afternoon, the town said. Fourty-five of the cases are active, while twenty-six have recovered. Two residents have died.

Fourty-one residents are in quarantine for potential exposure. Fourty-five have been released from quarantine.

For privacy reasons, the town does not release any information about the coronavirus patients. Public health officials conduct follow-up with the patients' contacts.

Mayor Scott Galvin closed the Horn Pond parking lots Friday, in an attempt to slow the spread of the new virus. The Cove Street parking lot and bathrooms and the Clapp Park and Sturgis Street parking lots are closed until further notice.

"Please remember that during the Governor’s Stay at Home Order, the Horn Pond recreation area is for transitory use only, which includes activities such as walking, biking, hiking, running, or solitary fishing," Galvin said.

The mayor noted that other areas to get exercise include the Cranberry Bog and Bike Trail in East Woburn, the Middlesex Canal Trail in North Woburn and the Whispering Hill and the Battle March Way Trail in West Woburn.

As of Sunday, there are over 12,000 cases of the new virus in Massachusetts.
