DEARBORN HEIGHTS, MI - An argument between stepbrothers at a basketball game led to a fatal shooting over the weekend.
Jeffrey Steen, 23, of Dearborn Heights succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds while receiving treatment at a local hospital, according to a news release from the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. His stepbrother Jalen Gullatt, 21, of Dearborn Heights, is charged in his death.
The incident occurred on Sunday, Jan. 17, in Dearborn Heights. Police believe the stepbrothers first argued at a basketball. The argument later continued at their home on the 27000 block of Clairview Drive in Dearborn Heights. It turned physical in a main-floor bedroom where Gullatt allegedly fired a handgun several times, with multiple rounds striking Steen.
Gullatt fled the scene shortly after the shooting. Someone called 911 around 10:15 p.m. Medicas transported Steen to a local hospital where he later died.
Gullatt was arraigned Thursday, Jan. 21, on charges of first-degree murder and felony firearm related to Steen’s death. He is lodged in jail. His probable cause hearing is set for Wednesday, Feb. 3.
